Freelance Journalist

Completed two to three articles each week with a focus on hyper-local features and the occasional general assignment story.
- Independently pitched stories that tapped into the issues, trends, and triumphs shaping Calgary.
- Prioritized projects based on topic relevance to ensure the most pressing stories reached publication first.
- Personally sought and established source and public relations contacts.
- Captured or outsourced artwork for all articles, including photographing people and events or finding copyright-free images. 
- Single-handedly reported the tentative results for all 14 ward councillor candidates using preliminary vote counts for Calgary's civic election on Oct. 20, 2025. 

Features Editor

Managed a section as one of eight student editors employed at MRU’s independent print and online news outlet.
- Filled the three to five pages allocated to my section for each bi-weekly print issue.
- Edited articles in accordance with The Canadian Press Stylebook (19th ed).
- Fact-checked article content to ensure that only verified information went to publication.
- Pitched and approved story pitches from students, including those outside of the journalism program.
- Coached contributors from diverse disciplines on interviewing sources, writing for news, and industry ethics.
- Assisted in proofreading up to 20 articles before sending the paper to print.

Multimedia Practicum Reporter

Covered municipal politics, breaking news, features, and hyper-local stories as a daily online reporter.
- Completed approximately one 500-1,000-word story per day, each with a minimum of two sources.
- Pitched and took on daily assignments from editors.
- Filed articles on WordPress, employing SEO tools to boost readership.
- Used Datawrapper to graph and in-text embed maps using quantitative statistics.
- Supplied article artwork for each story, either through personally photographing sources and events or uploading copyright-free images.
- Effectively communicated with PR persons to obtain source interviews and information.
- Wrote live while sitting in on city council meetings, updating as new information arose.

- Developed story pitches to be vetted by overseeing professors.
- Connected with and interviewed sources.
- Accurately transcribed interview audio for both in-text referencing as well as VO and TOV sequence writing.
- Videographed and photographed events, attaching these to written pieces after editing them on Adobe's Lightroom and Premiere Pro software.
